Common reasons a drain blocks again
What goes into the drain matters, but repeat problems can also be a sign of a fault in the pipe.
- Grease, wipes, scale or silt building up in the line
- Roots entering through a joint or crack
- Displaced joints, cracks or a partially collapsed pipe
- A section of pipe with a poor fall that holds waste
Clearing the blockage may only solve the symptom
Drain clearance gets the water moving again. If a damaged joint, root entry or low section remains, material can collect at the same point and the blockage can return.
That does not mean every repeat blockage needs excavation. It means the cause should be identified before deciding whether any repair is justified.
When a CCTV survey is useful
A camera survey is useful when the drain keeps blocking, damage is suspected or the exact position of a fault needs confirming. The drain normally needs to be clear enough for the camera to pass through and show the pipe walls.
Repair only when the evidence supports it
A survey can show whether the pipe is sound after clearance or whether a defect needs attention. The right next step depends on the location, condition and severity of what is found.
